Marcela Hanford was born in Switzerland to Mexican parents. Much of her childhood was spent in Europe, following her parents’ different postings. Shuttling between Rome and London she was exposed to art from an early age, and grew up surrounded by artists, art historians, and conservators.
She currently resides in beautiful Central New York where she has the privilege to explore in depth her artistic vision.
Marcela Hanford works in ink to create large-scale figurative drawings that reflect the energy and intricacies of the form. She explores line, expression, color, angle and tone. She uses marks as the vehicle for immediacy. Her gestural, urgent approach provides the viewer with a glimpse into the process as well as the result.
